Scouts - Gliding / Aviation

A weekend in Cambridge, combining a visit to Duxford's aviation museum with the chance to fly an aircraft (under the supervision of an instructor, of course).

Activities at Duxford included visiting a working control tower, doing pre-flight checks with an engineer on a Piper Cub aircraft, and learning about aircraft construction as well as airfield markings, safety and marshalling signals.

As well as flying the motor-glider, Sunday's activities included practising skills on a flight simulator and building model aircraft.

Our sincere thanks to all the different volunteers who made this terrific trip possible, particularly Peter and Mark at Duxford, and Neil and Don at Herts Scouts / Cambridge Gliding Centre.

Useful details for other troops who would like to run a similar event:
Duxford IWM, aeronautics badge option B
